1. What is the purpose of Spot The Lost?

The purpose of Spot The Lost is to provide an interface for information sharing for objects lost and found as well as help people in tracing their lost objects.

2. How does it work?

Spot The Lost acts as a sink of information. Everyone who is a member of STL can put some information in the sink as well as access some information from the sink. The information of lost and found objects reported by different users is accessible to all the users. In this way, anybody can look for any specific information of his/her use. Also Spot The Lost is working round the clock to trace your object. As soon as somebody reports a found object, STL matches it to the items reported as lost as well as to the saved data of the users for her/his different items. If it finds a match, it immediately sends an email to that person notifying about the finding of the object.

3. How to start using the services provided by Spot The Lost?

First you need to register yourself with Spot The Lost. Once your are registered, you can use the services by logging in. The registration procedure you can find under "Registration" topic in the help center.

4. How can i report a lost item?

For reproting the lost item, you need to login first. After logging in, you can click the option "Report the lost item" on the left pane of the home page or the account page. As soon as you will click this option, you will get a page with a form where you need to fill the details of the lost item. Only a few fields are mandatory to be filled, but it is better that you provide the information regarding the lost object as much as possible.

5. How can i report a found item?

For reproting a found item, you need to login first. After logging in, you can click the option "Report the found item" on the left pane of the home page or the account page. As soon as you will click this option, you will get a page with a form where you need to fill the details of the found item. Only a few fields are mandatory to be filled, but it is better that you provide the information regarding the lost object as much as possible.

6. What should i do after reporting the lost item?

Once you have reported the lost item with STL, it will keep tracking if somebody has found and registered that lost item with STL. If the information of your reported lost object matches with any of the reported found object, STL will intimate you about this finding via email. Once you get the email, you can login and check the details of that found item and make sure if it belongs to you. If it belongs to you then you can contact the person who has found it with the provided contact details of that person.

7. What should i do after reporting a found item?

Once you have reported a found item, you need not to do anything. As soon as the owner of the item will get to know about the finding, she or he will contact you via contact methods provided by you.

8. How can i search the information of a lost object?

For searching information regarding a particular lost object, you need to go to the link "Search the lost item" on the left pane of the home page or the account page. You can enter the search criteria in the form provided with a few fields as mandatory ones and submit the search criteria for results. You will have all the relevant entries in the results as a table form according to your search criteria. You can filter out the useful information from the table and you can contact that person who has lost that particular object by clicking on "Contact the person" link at the end of that particular row of the table for that entry.

9. How can i search the information of a found object?

For searching information regarding a particular found object, you need to go to the link "Search the found item" on the left pane of the home page or the account page. You can enter the search criteria in the form provided with a few fields as mandatory ones and submit the search criteria for results. You will have all the relevant entries in the results as a table form according to your search criteria. You can filter out the useful information from the table and you can contact that person who has found that particular object by clicking on "Contact the person" link at the end of that particular row of the table for that entry.

10. Why should I register the data of my important objects or items with Spot The Lost?

"Register your data" is a very important and powerful feature of Spot The Lost. Once you register the data related to your objects with STL, it will start looking for any of your lost item from the ones which are registered with STL without you reporting it as lost item. As soon as any item will be reported as found with Spot The lost, it will check if it belongs to you by looking at your registered items. If it finds a match, it will intimate you without you performing any action regarding this.

11. How can i register the data of my items with Spot The Lost?

For registering the data of your items with Spot The Lost, you need to use the link "Register your data". But before this you must be logged in or else it will ask you to log in first. It will prompt a form where all the necessary data related to the item being registered will be asked and in the end you need to submit the data. Once submitted, it will be stored with STL. You can register several items in the same way.

12. How can i see what items i have registered with Spot The lost?

On the account page you will find the link "My registered items" on the left pane. As soon as you will click this link, you will get all the resgitered items along with all the information in a form of table.

13. Where can i find the details of all the lost and found items reported by me?

On the account page you will find the link "My Lost/Found list" on the left pane. As soon as you will click this link, you will get all the items reported by you as lost or found along with all the information in a form of table.

14. I have a specific question and i can't find the answer. What should i do?
